Air power has shaped the success of military operations throughout history and will remain decisive in the future. In conflicts like Ukraine, we see the importance of drones, precision strikes, and the vulnerability of traditional air assets against advanced air defence systems. Emerging technologies—such as hypersonic weapons and the militarisation of space—will redefine both deterrence and combat. Hypersonics compress decision times, while space capabilities enhance surveillance, targeting, and communication. The lesson from Ukraine is clear: control of the air remains essential, but achieving it requires integrating new technologies, resilience, and adaptability to stay ahead of rapidly evolving threat.
