Congratulations Oscar Piastri
The Royal Automobile Club of Australia, the country’s oldest motoring club, congratulates Oscar Piastri in winning last Sundays Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, in doing so to become the fifth Australian to win a Grand Prix. Oscar beat his teammate Lando Norris off the start line after qualifying second to take the lead into turn one and from there was never headed. Growing up within ear shot of Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne, Oscar Piastri learnt his trade with remote control cars and go karts, before bypassing the Australian motorsport ladder system and moving directly to Europe.
His rise through the junior ranks was unprecedented. After claiming the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019 he was enlisted in the Renault Sport Academy and in the following two years won the F1 supporting Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships. After his win Oscar Piastri commented “I dreamt of this day as a little kid back in Australia. A truly unbelievable feeling. Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me and thanks to the team for this opportunity and all their hard work. Such a special day.”
At the Royal Automobile Club of Australia Annual Dinner on Saturday 21 September the motoring committee will celebrate the branch of motorsport where all potential champions like Oscar Piastri start – the night titled Karting: Future Champions. Our guest speaker Troy Hunt, a Karting Champion who started racing at 7 and runs a program developed by Karting Australia for kids aged 6 – 12 years called “Junior Sprockets”. Don’t miss this fun and informative night and bring interested kids and future champions. See event details, times, and costings in a separate notice.
Clive Palmer finally gets approval for a new motor museum.
After failing to get support for his motor museum on the Sunshine Coast Clive Palmer has finally managed to gain approval for his dream project on a site around one hour west of Brisbane. The mining Billionaire and former Politician’s dream to build a world class museum has been welcomed by Somerset Regional Council at the Patrick Estate near Lake Wivenhoe. The museum will consist of eleven large buildings able to display 923 cars and 278 motorcycles and is projected to generate around $9 million dollars in annual revenues from around 100,000 visitors a year. Clive Palmer has been collecting special interest cars for some years now both here and overseas including a large collection in Denmark.
