2018 marks the 150th anniversary of the Henschke family’s first commercial vintage in 1868. It is a significant occasion the Club will be celebrating at our 7th annual Black Tie (optional) Henschke Dinner on 23 November at 7pm, hosted by Sarah Andrew - DipWSET (Honours) – from the House of Fine Wine.
It’s a dinner wine lovers should not miss, and will feature 7 Henschke wines – 3 whites, 4 reds - matched to a bespoke menu created for the Dinner by the Club’s Executive Chef Gary Ryley. Two of the wines will be first releases from Henschke to coincide with their 150th anniversary.
The first is 2017 ‘Percival’s Mill’ Gruner Ventliner, an Austrian indigenous grape well suited to Henschke’s Adelaide Hills vineyard. The second is a new 2015 red, ‘The Wheelwright’, made from low-yielding, ungrafted shiraz vines planted by Cyril Henschke 50 years ago. We’ll be serving ‘The Wheelwright’ and 2013 ‘Cyril’ Cabernet Sauvignon’ with cheese following our now traditional options game, with the winner to receive a nice prize.
