On your behalf I pay tribute and extend humble thanks, for his service, to CEO Markus Friedler who has made the difficult decision to leave the Club so he can concentrate on his health and wellbeing. As many of you know Markus is the type of person who is either “all-in” or “all out” and, for his ongoing health, he determined it was best to leave the Club whereby - out of respect for him - the Board acceded to his request to allow him to determine the timing of his departure.

In a similar vein I give thanks to Michael Callanan with whom I have personally served as a Board colleague and Executive member for all the time I have been on the Board. Michael leaves the Board as someone standing tall in his dedication and longevity of service to the Club in the roles of Board Member, Treasurer, Vice President and President. His commitment over time is of great commendation and his sharp wit is already much missed around the table!

May I also recognise and express appreciation to Stephen Wells who has determined to leave the Board to refocus and repurpose his activities. I wish to thank Stephen for his contributions to the Board including in the areas of governance and marketing. I also acknowledge his service as Vice-President and personally thank him for his support and counsel.

All members will be invited to a farewell event - post-Easter - to appropriately acknowledge and thank Markus and Michael for their contributions to the Club as well as to thank former Directors Jim Warren, Nigel Renton and Stephen Wells for their service to the Club.

It is a delight to welcome Graeme Jones to the current Board! Graeme’s wholeheartedness and diligence as well acumen and skill are the perfect additions to the Boardroom table. Graeme has also been appointed as the Chair of the Board’s Membership and Marketing Committee.

I am most honoured, on your behalf, to congratulate and welcome Robert Armitage to the role of Vice-President. Robert continues to show exemplary application as a Director and his support is highly valued.

On your behalf I am very pleased to welcome Sandeep Khanna to the role of Operations Manager - and as Club Secretary in the interim period - as the Board undertakes the appointment process for our next CEO. He has already shown great skill with his carriage of Front of House matters and brings energy and enthu

The Board has held it’s first workshop to review the draft Conservation Management Plan. As a result of that workshop relevant recommendations have been made to the planning consultants. As the next stage of this review process the Board will have a second workshop, including a briefing on the applicability of the recommendations, before the plan can be finalised and then made known to Council.

February has been a celebratory month for the Club with Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee where we welcomed Chair of the Australian Monarchist League Philip Benwell MBE and fellow members including Reverend the Honourable Fred Nile MLC to share in the occasion. There was wonderful camaraderie for the High Tea and I thank Philip for his role in actively demonstrating that such collaborations are fruitful with the opening of new opportunities and more than one person subsequently becoming a member of the Club.

There was excellent celebration across three nights of snooker and billiards with much mastery shown by all players, including those from visiting Clubs, with the playing of the Inaugural Harry Terrett Trophy which pays homage to the late great Harry Terrett. All trophies, from the nights, will be awarded at a celebratory event in March - with thanks to all for their efforts in keeping the balls spinning!

The Club celebrated a significant milestone with the 35th Anniversary of the joining of the Imperial Service Club and the Royal Automobile Club of Australia. Members of Defence groups met to mark the occasion and plan for future collegiality as well as ongoing strengthening of the Club’s Defence partnerships. All members with links to or interest in Defence, whether current or past, active service or support, are encouraged to engage with these endeavours; you will receive a warm welcome for which I am continuously heartened!

See you for Music, Young Members, Movies or indeed the trio and more in March!

Yours in Service
