President's Message - December

In a new initiative, to ensure that you as a valued Member of our Club have more opportunities for direct input to your Board, I am pleased to announce that the Board has approved these Member-based groups as Board-linked committees:

Arts and Culture, Bridge, Food and Wine, Ladies Committee, Motoring, Snooker, Racing and Sport, and Young Executives.

The Ladies Committee and Young Executives have previously been known as Committees established under the Board’s auspices and will now formally be part of a thoroughly invigorated structure for 360 degree feedback.

Your feedback is always welcome and encouraged via: As your President, I will ensure that all feedback is reviewed for action as part of the Club’s new committees framework.
Your Board also has reaffirmed the Club’s commitment to COVID-safe practices continuing, in line with Public Health Orders, for it to be compulsory for all Members, guests, staff, contractors and suppliers to be double-vaccinated. This will apply for the foreseeable future and, in accordance with guidelines issued by ClubsNSW, is not subject to any other deadlines.

It is also my clear expectation that the reformed Board Committees -Finance, Governance, House, Membership & Marketing and Property - will commence their work immediately, on your behalf, and indeed it is pleasing that revised activity in the areas of the budget from the time of reopening and archives and conservation management has already commenced with more on the way.

November was a highly significant month with the commemoration of Remembrance Day. It was wonderful to have The Ode read in the Members’ Bar on the day itself with the observation of a minute’s silence, as well as to share with Members a poignant time of reflection at The Cenotaph in the presence of our Patron, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales, and the Honourable the Premier Dominic Perrottet LLB BCom MP.

Earlier in Remembrance Week it was a special privilege to join with the Australasian Pioneers’ Club in hosting a luncheon with former Army Captain and Intelligence Officer Sarah Watson who candidly shared on her PTSD struggles and current project work aimed at creating a national centre for veterans’ wellbeing. I have encouraged her to reach out as this project gathers momentum to see how best your Club can work more closely with the defence community.

Thanks to our much-loved staff for all their efforts, service and caring for you as valued Members! You may like to thank staff personally when you see them in the Club and please note that there is the Staff Christmas Gratuities Fund for financial contributions.

May I extend to all Members blessings for a very happy and safe Christmas festive season.

Yours in Service,
M Lavender signature 2
