Motoring is the heart of the RACA and over the last month the heart beat strongly.
Fluid Friday on Friday 29 April was attended by nearly 40 guests, and heard Club member Greg Starr give a short address on his experience with seven “Hills District” born and bred big kids in the Bondi to Batts Reef 2019 Variety Bash, to raise money for kids through the children’s charity; Variety. The group spent 10 days travelling 4,570 kms together in a 1980 Holden VC Commodore and a 1986 Ford XF Falcon. Great effort kids!
The Club run on 15 May to the Butter Factory restaurant at Nowra was well attended by RACA members. We were joined on the day by members of the Maserati and Triumph Clubs which brought the number of motoring buffs in the restaurant to about 50. Food and atmosphere were great, and we will certainly do that again!
Fluid Friday on Friday 27 May was another success where we heard a short address about the 1967 Rolls Royce Phantom V that was once the Australian Government’s vehicle for Royal and Vice Regal transport. John Matheson and Jeanne Eve acquired the vehicle in 1993 and subsequently drove it 16,000 kms on the 1997 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. After rally restorations, in 2002 they donated it to the Henry Royce Foundation Australia, where it now resides within the Foundation’s collection and is garaged in NSW with the RROCA-NSW. These dinners are casual and inexpensive and members and their guests are always welcome!
Coming up are the Club’s motoring quiz night planned for 29 June and the Combined Car Club’s Classic Car Display and Charity BBQ at Bundanoon on 2 July. Email eventsadmin@raca,com.au to register your interest.
