Introducing New CEO

It is with great pleasure that after formal Board approval, on behalf of all members, I welcome and introduce David Fischer as the new permanent CEO of the Royal Automobile Club of Australia. (Photo from left to right: Doug Grand, Megan Lavender, David Fischer)

David is an established leader in founding and managing global hospitality, digital, and media businesses.  He founded the joint venture company with Soho House Group for India, where he was CEO during the set up phase and currently remains on the Board.  Soho House Group is a leading member club and hospitality business, which was valued at US $2.8b after its IPO in 2021.  Soho House Mumbai has won numerous accolades, including being named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Greatest Places in the World and Conde Nast’s 19 Top Global Destinations in 2019.  David has been based in Sydney since 2015 and a frequent visitor since 2001, building a robust network in hospitality, innovation and other businesses.

David was a founding investor in Frontiers Digital (now part of Milton Exhibits Group) in China and served as Chairman of  leading digital agency Media Run Group Ltd, guiding its rapid growth and successful sale to Adknowledge (USA).  Prior to that, he started MySpace’s international business, built it into Europe's largest social network, while growing IGN into the #1 gaming portal in the UK.  One of the first music executives to embrace digital, David ran the online business of a Universal/Sony JV; was a key executive at AOL Europe during its high growth phase 1998-2000; and helped launch Turner Broadcasting across Asia. David was a founding director of Softtechnet.com plc, a listed internet tech fund sold to SPARK Ventures plc for £33.6m, and Quadranet plc, a listed restaurant technology business.  As Chairman of the award- winning Xlantic Group, he co-created multiple media projects, including two no. 1 albums (10x Platinum in India).  

David has received numerous awards including an Emmy nomination in 2007, the same year he was ranked 9th on Broadcast Magazine’s list of creative leaders in the UK.  He served on the UK Creative Industries Panel which advised the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport of the United Kingdom.  Fluent in French and Spanish, he holds Masters Degrees (with honors) from the University of California, Berkeley and University of Geneva, Switzerland and a BS summa cum laude from Georgetown University.
