It’s pleasing to now be able to provide you with details of our 2 remaining events for this most difficult of years – a tasting/tour on Thursday 8 October as scheduled, and our annual Black Tie Henschke Dinner (again with a twist) - now scheduled for Friday 20 November.
The theme for our tasting tour will be ‘Australian Regional Differences’, and what we’ll be doing is exploring and tasting the differences in wines made from the same grape variety but grown in different Australian wine regions. With 2 differing wines made from at least 6 different grape varieties all around Australia, our palates will be kept very busy.
The tasting/tour will be hosted by Ian/Ches Cook from Five Way Cellars in Paddington, who’ll also be supplying the 12 or so wines. They’ll be served in brackets accompanied by small food portions specially prepared by the Club’s Chef and his team to complement the wines. Full details of the wines and the matching menu will be available closer to the event. The cost per head will be a bargain $100.
For those who’ve not been before, our tasting/tours are relaxed, informal and educative evenings designed to appeal to those members and their guests seeking an introduction to the wonderful world of wine or to expand their existing knowledge.
The twist to this year’s Henschke Dinner is that we’re planning to make it a joint Bests/Henschke night, when we’ll have the unique opportunity to taste comparable wines from each of these 2 iconic Australian wineries. The symmetry is intriguing. Both are long established family owned producers – Bests was established in 1866 at Great Western in Victoria and Henschke in 1868 at Keyneton in the Eden Valley in South Australia. Both make some of Australia’s best wines and feature prominently in Langton’s Classification.
We’re presently compiling the wine list – the choice is breathtaking – and once that’s done Chef will be asked to devise the bespoke menu. Once that’s done and the pricing is known, we’ll provide you with full details.
In the interim, if you wish to book for either the tasting/tour on 8 October or our Bests/Henschke Dinner on 20 November, please contact Yvonne Muriithi at the Club on 8273 2322 or by email at email@example.com.
