I have several matters to report this month - the first being our June trip to Handhorf and the Clare Valley. There were 13 of us, the camaraderie was great, and everyone had a wonderful time. There were many highlights; my top 3 being our escorted tour of the Jesuit owned Sevenhill Winery and Cellars and the tutored tasting afterwards, a ‘Best of Clare’ degustation dinner at the Watervale Hotel, and a tour of ‘Bungaree Station’ established by the Hawker Family in 1841 and still owned and operated by them.
The second is our Bastille Dinner on Saturday 14 July at 7pm, comprising a traditional 6 course French menu specially crafted for the occasion by the Club’s Executive Chef Gary Ryley, partnered by 7 specially chosen matching wines from many of France’s wine regions. At $148 per person it’s a bargain too good to be missed!
Our annual Bastille Night Dinner is the perfect opportunity to celebrate all things French – food, wine, fashion, and style; so we’re hoping you’ll make a booking, glam it up a bit, and come along. If you’re lucky you might even win one of the 3 best dressed prizes or our wine options game!
Finally, some dates for your diary:
23 August – Vintage Room Tasting/Tour - Your committee has several themes in mind; however what we thought we might do is ask those attending the Bastille Dinner for their thoughts.
4 October – Bests Wines Dinner - Bests, in Victoria’s Great Western Region, is one of Australia’s oldest wine producers, established by Henry Best in the 1860’s and owned by the Thomson family since the 1920’s. Best’s old vineyards are among the oldest and rarest pre-phylloxera plantings in the world, from which they make wonderfully distinctive wines such as their Old Vine Pinot Meuniere, Bin 0 Shiraz, Pinot Noir/Pinot Meuniere blend, and Concongella Blanc – an old fashioned but very lovely and interesting field blend.
23 November – Black Tie Henschke Dinner - this will be our seventh Henschke Dinner, and we’ve decided to add a ‘twist’ this year. More details to follow.
