Corks 'n' Forks Committee - March

Dear Members,

Tasting/Tour – 24 February – ‘A Plethora of Pinots’
By any measure, our first tasting/tour for the year was a great success, with 35 members and guests enjoying a variety of 13 red, white, straight and blended Pinots served with 4 accompanying courses of great food from Chef Dominique Descat and his team.

Chef generously joined us toward the end of the evening to introduce himself, discuss the menu, and answer many questions from a very happy group of well sated diners. My favourite dish was the first course of venetian style scallop, oysters and whitebait served with 2 Pinots Grigio from Italy and Australia and an Italian Pinot Bianco.

Confrérie du Sabre d’Or Australian Grand Chapter Champagne Dinner – 9 April
This is an event not to be missed. It will be hosted by ‘Corks ‘n’ Forks’ and Club member David Wald. David is the Australian Ambassador of the Australian Chapter of the Confrérie du Sabre d’Or based in Champagne. The Dinner will mark the 10th anniversary of the Confrérie in Australia.

The Confrérie du Sabre d’Or is devoted to promoting the act of Sabrage and the enjoyment of Champagne. Sabrage is the act of opening a champagne bottle with a sabre. The organisation was officially established in France in 1986, but the tradition of Sabrage – where sword meets bottle – goes back to Napoleonic times. Opening a bottle with a sabre adds much drama, interest and fun.

What you will experience at the Dinner is the art of Sabrage of standard and large format Champagne bottles including magnums and jeroboams. You will enjoy excellent premier cru and grand cru champagne from the champagne houses of Philippe Brugnon and Roger Manceaux. Their excellent cuvees include Vintage Millesime 2012 & 2015, Grande Reserve, Rose, Blanc de Noir, Blanc de Meunier, and Blanc de Blancs. The wines of Domaine Vincent Bachelet in Burgundy will also be served.
Chef has crafted a 3 course menu to complement the Champagnes and Burgundy.

The very reasonable price for all of this is $250 per head. We already have a number of bookings, so I suggest you book early. You can do so either online or with the RACA App, or by contacting Yvonne Muriithi at the Club on 8273 2322 or
