Dear Members - 3 things to think about.

The first is our annual Bastille Night Dinner at 7pm on 14 July in the Macquarie Room. Bastille Night is the perfect opportunity to celebrate all things French – food, wine, fashion, style etc; so we’re hoping you’ll make a booking, glam it up a bit, and come along. If you’re lucky you might even win one of the best dressed prizes or our wine options game!

Of course it wouldn’t be Bastille Night at the RACA without good food and wine. I’m happy to report our Executive Chef Rebecca Kaye has devised an innovative 5 course French menu (that includes a Delice des Cremieres truffled cheese), and we’ll be serving a great selection of matching French wines sourced from 7 of Frances’s wine regions to accompany the various courses.

The all-inclusive price per head is $145.

The second event for you to think about is the next of our very popular ‘tasting/tours’ scheduled for 6pm on 10 August. For those who’ve not been before, our ‘tasting/tours’ are relaxed, informal and educative evenings designed to appeal to those members and their guests seeking an introduction to the wonderful world of wine or to expand their existing knowledge. They’re held in the seated comfort of the Vintage Room and only 16 places are available. The wines are served in 4 flights, accompanied by 4 small food courses chosen by Chef to match the wines.

Our ‘tasting/tour’ on 10 August has the unlikely title ‘Orange Wombats’ and will feature and compare 12 or so wines made by 2 Club members Ben Crossing from Angullong Wines in Orange and Ian Napier from ‘Wombat Crossing Wines’ in the Hunter. Ben and Ian will be joining us to present their wines, so don’t be surprised if there’s some friendly verbal jousting as the night progresses! The all-inclusive price per head is $85.

Finally, a few words about our trip to the Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley from 12-17 September. We’re still working on the detail, however the plan is to convene in Melbourne for dinner on Tuesday 12 September, spend the Wednesday and Thursday nights on the Mornington Peninsula, the Friday and Saturday nights in the Yarra Valley, and return to Melbourne on Sunday 17 September. We’ll hire a small bus to get us around, and have a lot of fun as we go.

For those who haven’t joined us before, we’ll organise the accommodation, the nightly dinners, and where we go and what we do each day. As to cost, you’ll need to pay your own travel and accommodations expenses. We’ll all share the rest. We’ve used this ‘system’ on our previous odysseys to the Barossa Valley and Rutherglen/Beechworth, and it seems to work pretty well.
