Our “Artist’s in Conversation Series“ continues the second Wednesday of every month.
Alongside this a changing monthly exhibition of art is displayed in the Club and available for purchase.
To date we have focused on portraiture, as portraits often capture not just an image but the essence of a person & their journey.
First in the series the work of Filippa BUTTITTA ( Ian White’s late wife) who died this year from a brain tumour in her early 50s.
In a personal journey, Ian White spoke of the massive loss to her family and the art community just as an Archibald Prize finalist Philippa‘s work was gaining wider appreciation. It was while painting a portrait of her friend, Tony Costa, she had been diagnosed with a Grade 4 gliobasta brain tumour.
In painting
“My friend at the pinnacle of his art career, I was commencing the decline of my own”

Second in the series in July was Guy MORGAN in conversation around his portrait series “After Retinal Detachment” exploring how a eye injury in 2011 changed his perspective on painting. In 2013 GUY first-entered the Archibald Prize to demonstrate his permanently distorted vision after suffering a major retinal detachment.
Guy generously donated to RACA a signed copy of his book “The Empire Sells Out" tied to 48 illustrations touching disability, social inequality, and ageism in a way Guy says hopefully:
“will make you laugh preferably out loud at the ridiculousness of life”
