GOOD WINES FROM UNEXPECTED PLACES’ I’m pleased to report our ‘Good Wines from Unexpected Places’ tasting and tour on 11 August was an outstanding success. Among 12 wines from such diverse countries such as Lebanon, Romania, Japan and Uruguay, just to name a few, my personal favourite was the red wine from Armenia - the 2014 Zorah Karasi, made from the indigenous grape Areni Noir grown in the shadows of Mount Ararat and aged in traditional amphorae.
With such a diverse range of sparkling, red, and white wines, matching the accompanying food was challenging. However as always Chef and her team rose to the occasion, and the 3 small courses served as we tasted our way through the wines were a tribute to their culinary skills. The honey roasted duck was outstanding.
Our tasting ‘tours’ are relaxed, informal and educative evenings designed to appeal to those members seeking an introduction to the wonderful world of wine or to expand their existing knowledge. They’re held in the seated comfort of the Vintage Room and only 16 places are available, so do keep your eyes open for the next one.
The Corks ‘n’ Forks committee will soon be planning for next year, and we’d love to hear from you. Suggestions for our dinners, tastings, trip away, or indeed anything related to the enjoyment of eating and drinking in good company will be most welcome.
