Ever tasted good table wines from say Slovenia or Japan? If you haven’t but would like to, then Corks ‘n’ Forks next vinous wine ‘tour’ with the theme ‘Good Wines from Unexpected Places’ may well expand your horizons.
Yes, our next ‘tour’ is scheduled for 6pm on Thursday 11 August in the Vintage Room, when we’ll taste 12 wines carefully selected by Steve Blandford from less familiar countries or regions. The wines will be served in 3 flights accompanied by 3 small courses of matching food.
Our tasting ‘tours’ are relaxed, informal and educative evenings designed to appeal to those members seeking an introduction to the wonderful world of wine or to expand their existing knowledge. Only 18 places are available for this sit down tasting so I suggest you book early. The price is $70 per person.
Also, thanks to everyone who came along and made our Bastille Dinner such a great success, particularly those who dressed for the occasion. Congratulations to our 3 prize winners – the best dressed male and female, and our canny winner of the wine options game.
The 5 course degustation menu featuring dishes from France’s many regions was creative and interesting, as were the 7 matching wines. Food wise I particularly enjoyed the entrée of venison carpaccio, and the French brie served before dessert. My 3 favourite wines were the Alsatian Pinot Gris, the Beaujolais, and the Vouvray from the Loire Valley.
Finally, please mark in your diaries our Black Tie Henschke Dinner, this year scheduled for Friday 18 November. It might seem a long way away, but it will rock around quickly.
To make a booking for our wine ‘tour’ on 11 August or our Black Tie Henschke Dinner on 19 November, please contact the Club’s Events Team as soon as possible. You can phone them on 8273 2320, or send an email to [email protected].
