I’m pleased to report our vinous ‘Tour’ of France’s Rhone Valley on Wednesday 18 May was a great success. Seated in the comfort of the Vintage Room, we tasted 11 wines from all parts of the Valley – 4 whites, 6 reds and a Muscat, plus 1 Australian comparative red. The wines were served in 4 flights, and were accompanied by 4 small servings of matching regional food beautifully prepared by Executive Chef Rebecca Kaye and her team. Rebecca joined us toward the end of the evening; and enthusiastically fielded many questions about her professional background, the creative menu she designed, and how well the food matched the wines.
Our next vinous ‘Tour’ will be on Thursday 11 August, the theme being ‘Good Wines from Unexpected Places’. Only 18 places will be available, so I suggest you book early.
We’re now putting the final touches to our trip to Rutherglen and Beechworth from 8 to 12 June. There’ll be many food and wine highlights, one being the opportunity to taste the diverse world renowned fortified wines for which Rutherglen is famous. Our hired bus will be leaving from the Club on Wednesday 8 June, which might be handy if you’d prefer not to drive. Please ring me on 0411 103 119 or send me an email to [email protected] if you’d like more information or to reserve a place.
Finally, and as part of the Club’s French Themed celebrations in July, Corks ‘n’ Forks is pleased to announce that we’ll be holding our annual Bastille Day Dinner on Thursday 14 July. Chef has already finalised the menu, to which we’ll be matching a selection of wines specially chosen from France’s renowned wine regions.
Bastille Night is one of the few occasions we have during the year to highlight all things French, so we’re hoping you’ll all make the most of the opportunity to make a booking and glam it up a bit. The ladies I’m sure will need no encouragement; however the men may need to go looking for that long-lost beret, cravat or bow tie at the bottom of the drawer.
To make a booking for Bastille Night or our next wine ‘Tour’ on 11 August, please contact the Club’s Events Team as soon as possible to reserve your place. You can phone them on 8273 2320, or send an email to [email protected].
